Tuesday, December 12, 2000 Alla Abdel-Azim Al-Afande who is 29 years old and a teacher in the senior high school in the city of Bardis - Al-baliana, attacked Fr. Hizkial Gabriel, the priest of St. Mary Church in Bardis, when he was leaving the church. The attacker stabbed the priest with a knife in his shoulder, hand and chest, the priest was taken to the hospital. 

The security officials stated that the condition of the priest was not dangerous. The officials detained the attacker and stated that he is mentally disturbed and was many times in a hospital for the mentally disturbed.

Comment: It has been the custom of the Egyptian officials to characterize any Muslim who murders and attacks Christians as mentally disturbed.
