Mounir Ghali Moved to San Francisco, Bay Area California in the early 80s. An intelligent and deeply thoughtful man, he recognized the challenges that faced the Coptic Community in the land of the immigration as well as those facing the Copts in his home land, Egypt. Soon after he arrived at the Bay Area, he joined the American Coptic Association Northern California Chapters along with Mr. Milad iskander, Dr. Moheb Rizkalah, Dr. Guirguis Guirguis , Dr. Gameel Mussa, Mr.Fayez El Giheny, Mr.Nabil William, Mr. Adel Shaheed, and Mr. Milad Hanna. Together they worked to shed light on plight of the Copts in Egypt. Mr Ghali played an essential role as chapter secretary, preparing the agenda, hosting, and running the meetings, writing letters to officials, distributing literature including the organization quarterly magazine, preparing for protests in front of the Egyptian Embassy, collecting donations from members, and determining the necessary expenses. In addition to working for equality for all in Egypt through the American Coptic Association, Mr. Mounir Ghali contributed generously to charitable organizations and supported many poor families and orphanages in Egypt.
A natural leader and contributor Mounir Ghali played an essential role in guiding the Coptic Church in the Bay Area. At Saint Anthony Coptic Church Hayward California, collaborated with the Church board, and the priests while tirelessly advocating for the well being of the congregation. He was one of the founding members of Saint Mina Coptic Church in Concord, California. Always open minded and warm hearted he made special efforts to introduce the Coptic Church to our fellow Americans sharing with them Coptic traditions and culture.
Mr. Mounir Ghali and his wife Patricia were dedicated to their family. He was a loving father to their children Thomas, Matthew, Christina, and Mark, and his many grandchildren

Mounir Ghali was an honest, sincere and deeply compassionate man. His loss will be felt by Northern Chapter of the American Coptic Association and the Coptic Community in the Bay Area. We extend our deepest condolences to Mrs. Patricia Ghali and their children.

These poems were written by his daughter Christina, and were read during the funeral.

Dear Father

Who once guided us with an iron will
and hands that never ceased to craft and build
You sat at the head of our table feeding us every wonderful thing
You've flown away on an angel's wing
You who opened our world, unravelling it's mysteries with your brilliant mind
and sprinkled seeds in our garden where nothing seemed to die
You watered tiny saplings until they grew lofty and high
And now we bid you good bye
How can it be that you lie here so quiet and still?
You who once trekked through miles of desert
And swam against the Nile's great current
Only to lie here so quiet and still
While your spirit walks above on golden streets
a heavenly reward for all your earthly feats.

> ==This 1s nothing new. In 1954 I was a clerk at the Dropsie College Library in Philadelphia, PA ( a dtugaare school where ancient middle eastern studies was the specialty). There were two Egyptian students. One was a Coptic Christian, and one a muslim sent by Nasser's government to watch the Coptic student. As far as the Egyptian government was concerned, the Coptic was a security risk who was studying among Jewish students. There has been violence against Coptic christians in Egypt for centuries.
